We are not sure about the response the upcoming thriller No One Killed Jessica will elicit once it releases. But with someone like Rajkumar Gupta firmly seated in the director’s chair, we have placed a certain amount of trust on the movie. Gupta’s previous movie Aamir was a critical success with reviewers classifying it in the list of the finest movies in recent times.
As the name suggests, the movie is based on the controversial murder of model Jessica Lal. Justice was delayed and declined in the early phase of court trial which resulted in the acquittal of the accused. This sparked nationwide protest and prompted the reopening of the case. The case concluded with the life imprisonment of the perpetrator in April 2010. Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee feature in powerful roles in what is certainly a woman-centric movie. Vidya’s character is close to Jessica’s elder sister, Sabrina Lal, while Rani plays a news reporter. The movie was filmed completely in Delhi and is scheduled to release on 7 January 2011.
