Surya’s 2010 Tamil blockbuster action flick Singam is being remade in Bollywood. Helming the project is none other than Rohit Shetty who is fresh off the superb success of Golmaal 3. In case you haven’t guessed already, the remake will star Rohit’s good friend and most dependable hero Ajay Devgn in the lead role of a cop.

The cast and crew will commence shooting in March and will be sweating it out for a July release date. Produced by Reliance Big Pictures which co-produced the original, the cop flick will mark Rohit’s return to hardcore action movie territory.

The original starring Surya, Anushka Shetty and Prakash Raj revolved around a daring cop who declared war on an extortionist mafia faction and on how he puts away the bad guys for the good. The movie went on to collect Rs. 500 million (Rs. 50 crore) in its highly successful box office run.
