| | Director Kabeer Kaushik, who made his debut with the 2005 cop drama Saher, is returning to the genre with his next release, Maximum. The film, which stars Naseeruddin Shah, Sonu Sood, Vinay Pathak and Neha Dhupia, however, is not a sequel to Saher.
Says Kaushik, "The similarities end at the fact that both the films happen to be cop dramas. They are two separate ntities. While Saher looked at the genre in a macro form, this is about a personalised journey of the protagonist."
Kaushik reveals that his film is inspired by real life encounter specialists and revolves around the journey of one such cop, his rise and fall, power struggles with colleagues and the inherent politics that exist within the system. Over the years, Kaushik insists that he has closely followed Mumbai's celebrated encounter cops like Pradeep Sharma, Vijay Salaskar, Praful Bhonsle, Daya Naik and Angre among others.
"I had references from their lives while designing the story, but the film has a poetic beginning and end, unlike real life," adds Kaushik. Being a son of a journalist, he says he has seen cops, bureaucrats and politicians at close quarters. So was making the film and getting the nuances right an easy task?
He reveals, "Things like body language and dressing is very peripheral. I needed the actors to understand that Mumbai police is very different from the forces in Delhi or UP. They run on a different code, so I had done a detailed analysis and met a lot of cops." Those weren't the only roadblocks. The director faced a lot of trouble when the film's lead actor Arshad Warsi turned down the part, a day before the shoot. He says, "Naseer saab was gracious enough to come in last minute. He has done such a wonderful job."

| | Social networking sites have proved to be a boon for Bollywood. But that is worry ing Emraan Hashmi. The actor, who is currently shooting for Raaz 3, has requested his filmmaker-uncle Mahesh Bhatt to stay away from the sets of the production, while the film's climax scene is being shot.
"He tweets quite regularly. Since the climax is integral to our film, we want to keep it exclusive. If he's around, he might post a random tweet, which can unintentionally be a spoiler. Although he is very particular, you never know about some unintended detail going out," says Emraan, who personally explained the situation to Bhatt.
"Even if he does come, I've requested him to not tweet. And when I told him, he took it in the right spirit. We are just being cautious." On other days, the veteran filmmaker has been visiting the sets regularly. Emraan, meanwhile, is having fun shooting for the sequel. Admitting that horror is his favourite genre, he says, "Raaz 3 has a new format of 3D, which is new to me. I have always been a big fan of graphic animation. We haven't fixed a date to shoot the climax scene yet as the crew from Hollywood is working on the film right now. We didn't want too many schedules and inconvenience everyone involved." The Vikram Bhattfilm is being shot in a start-to-finish schedule. It also stars Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta.

| | While most actors have chock-a-block shooting schedules in 2012, Shahid Kapoor has no qualms in admitting that he has no work on hand as of now.
The actor recently wrapped up shooting for Kunal Kohli’s tentatively titled “Teri Meri Kahaani”, in which he features with Priyanka Chopra. But after that, he is still waiting to lock something.
“I don’t like to comment on any of my films till the producers make an official announcement. All I can say is I don’t have any films right now. So right now I am unemployed,” Shahid told reporters at an event organised here Monday by electronics company Pioneer India.
However, his fans don’t need to be disappointed, as he said: “In the second half of the year I have many films.”
Will his “unemployed” status come in the way of his plans of settling down?
“I am available. It takes a certain amount of time to establish yourself. It’s better if your partner is with you to share your journey in life,” commented the actor, whose father’s directorial “Mausam” failed to mint moolah at the box office.
Meanwhile, talking about working with his rumoured ex-girlfriend Priyanka, he hints that the duo will recreate their “Kaminey” chemistry in Kohli’s project.
“It’s premature to talk about the film. It’s a film which is shot over three different time periodS. It’s a romantic comedy. Priyanka is a fun co-star and we share a good chemistry,” he said.
Shahid wrapped up shooting on the project Jan 8. It is scheduled to release June 22.

| | While the Indian youth faces criticism for aping the west, young actress Sonam Kapoor says she finds nothing wrong with it as good values are “universal”.
“Values are usually universal…good values are universal. The west in not a devil coming to change our minds about certain things. Yes, we have amazing values in India which we should be very proud of. But I think it’s fine to get influenced by the world because the world is getting smaller in a lot of ways,” the 26-year-old actress said here at a youth fest.
Sonam, considered to be a style icon for the youths, feels India has a great future because of the young population in the country.
“India is predominantly a youthful nation. When you are younger, you are more idealistic and you want to strive for a better future for ourselves. I think we have an amazing future because we are such a young nation,” she said..
Sonam’s last release was “Players”. She is currently working on Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”, in which she will be seen with Farhan Akhtar.

Riteish told IANS that Genelia kept him on his toes in the film. “No matter how well you know that person but when it comes to the professional level it’s a different person and that’s a wonderful part. Suddenly, when you work with a competent actor it’s challenging. Genelia always keeps me on my toes. Every day I feel that I can do better than her but she kicks my ass.”
Riteish, who has some wonderful films to his credit, felt that Genelia was a better actor than him. “I think Genelia is a better actor than me.”
Riteish firmly protested that marriage was not going take away his freedom from him. “I don’t think there is any sort of fear that my freedom will go for a toss.”
“I think when you are seeing each other for so long the question of freedom doesn’t arise. You tend to know each other so much, besides we both have been very private,” he said.
“We tried to give dignity to our relationship in the privacy that we maintained,” Riteish
