A television crew intrudes into a village hutment and plonks a camera bang in the middle of its cramped, messy space. It is looking for an exclusive, TRP-boosting ‘conversation’ with a suicidal farmer. The latter, dread and bewilderment writ large on his face, cringes in a corner of the room.
The star reporter, doing her best to exude sympathy, seeks to assuage the man's fears. "Don’t be afraid," she says. "This camera cannot do anything."
Well, the TV cameras do an awful lot of things in Peepli Live, and not all of it is of a salutary nature. Source

The thing about shallow people from the beau monde is that they shouldn't be played shallowly when brought to the screen.
Sonam Kapoor in a 'tailor'-made role (where more moolah seems to have been spent on tailoring her chic outfits than on exploring the locations, sound sights scents and, yes, sense of this embarrassing world of excessive self-preening) gets the Jane Austen character right. Quite a leap for the actress.

She, a wannabe figure skater, cannot see. He, a bare-knuckles street-fighter, doesn’t need to. But both Pinky Palkar and Nandan Kamtekar have their sights firmly set on a better life, a life beyond the mean backstreets of Mumbai. The path out of this morass is, needless to say, littered with countless snares.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai takes us back to the beginnings of gangsterism in Mumbai. Milan Luthria excels in creating smouldering combustive stress between two mean menacing men… Remember Devgn (who back then was Devgan, just as Mumbai was Bombay when the film under review unfolds) and Saif Ali Khan in Luthria's Kachche Dhaage and on a more satirical note, John Abraham and Nana Patekar in Taxi No 9211.

Trisha’s plans for ruling Bollywood
Saturday, 28 August 2010 07:02

trisha krishnan 1The latest import from the South – Trisha Krishnan had a so-so debut in Priyadarshan’s satire Khatta Meetha. Though the movie wasn’t a box office blockbuster like Priyadarshan’s previous comedy escapades, it did launch Trisha’s career in Bollywood and the actress is in no mood to back off without placing herself as a leading lady in the North. She has got definite plans for attaining this status and that involves being choosy and demanding about her male leads and the projects.

“I would love to work with established stars like Aamir and SRK. Also, young actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan are very promising,” says Trisha. It is indeed surprising to see Akshay Kumar’s name missing from that list as the actress was often found showering praises on him till Khatta Meetha released.

Trisha goes on to add, “When I started my career in South, I worked with well packaged filmmakers and will follow the same in Bollywood. Since I want to establish myself here, I intend to be part of well packaged films. As I am venturing in this industry I am making cautious moves...Also, I am choosy about the films I do. I want to slowly and gradually make a mark in this industry as well.”

The plan sounds good Trisha. But we’d suggest that you keep your fingers crossed as Bollywood has its dose of unpleasant surprises and that includes big budget superstar movies tanking without warning.

Anil Kapoor’s role in Oscar winning Hollywood movie Slumdog Millionaire did give his career a much needed boost and launched him in the entertainment industry in the west. The actor was instantly picked up for the eighth season of America’s hit series 24.

With a cast headed by Kiefer Sutherland and with a viewership of millions, 24 is among the most watched action dramas in the world. 24 anil kapoor 2
Anil was cast for the eighth season of 24 which aired in the US from January 17, 2010 to May 24, 2010. Predictably the series took its sweet time to be telecast here in India and that time is now. AXN India which has been telecasting all the seasons of the series has finally got the eighth season up and running for its viewers. The series will debut on AXN from 23-08-2010, Monday at 11 PM in India. The series will run every week from Monday to Thursday. The channel is expecting an increase in the series viewership as Anil Kapoor is part of the cast.

In the latest season of 24, Anil plays Omar Hassan, president of a fictional Islamic Republic of Kamistan (IRK), who visits the US on a peace mission to meet the US president.

Tune into AXN at 11 PM tonight. The clock is ticking.

The Italian Job remake: Sonam Kapoor joins the crew
Sunday, 15 August 2010 09:06

Some of you must have seen the classic heist movie The Italian Job which starred Michael Caine or its equally good remake with Mark Wahlberg, Jason Statham, Edward Norton and Charlize Theron. Both movies were well-received by the critics and set the cash registers ringing non-stop. The caper premise of The Italian Job also involved a high speed car chase sequence which movie buffs regard as the best ones ever filmed.

Bollywood, which doesn’t miss out on a chance to get “inspired” by Hollywood has already got a remake under construction. The director-duo of Abbas-Mustan is currently busy with the casting of the remake. Abhishek Bachchan and Katrina Kaif had been selected for the movie in the preliminary stage. But given the fact that Katrina opted out of the project, the directors have roped in the current favourite Sonam Kapoor for the lead actress role. Katrina walked out on the men-in-white in favour of a Yash Raj film opposite Imran Khan.

The Expendables wages war in 400 screens in India
Saturday, 14 August 2010 05:37

Sylvester Stallone is back and he has got his old friends along this time in what action junkies call the return of the 1980’s. The Expendables is the talk of the town this season primarily due to its star-studded cast consisting of the who’s who from the world where cars blow up, men evade bullets, bombs go off every 60 seconds, guns and fists talk more and at the end of it all, the good guys save the day.expendables_poster

Directed by and starring Stallone, the true-blooded action escapade stars the biggest names in the business of action – Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Steve Austin to name a few. Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger appear in guest roles to complete the picture of the one explosive gang of 1980’s action heroes.

The movie is a tribute to action movies which ruled the box office during the golden era of the genre – the late 80’s and the early 90’s when T-800, John Rambo and John McClane were the names that hauled millions to theatres.

Sonam Kapoor tops Maxim India’s HOT 100 list!
Tuesday, 10 August 2010 13:37

Yes, we do have a section to anything and everything which has an adjective “hot” attached to it. But this is one piece of info which should be called and classified as “news”.

So tell us, when was the last time that you found Bollywood’s delicate, tender, so sweet as dessert damsel Sonam Kapoor smokin’ hot? It wasn’t Dilli 6 or Saawariya for sure. Was it I Hate Luv Storys? Chances are nil unless you are someone who find girls in glasses irresistible. It wasn’t that bad as we put it, by the way. Then how come Sonam Kapoor made it to the top of Maxim India’s HOT 100 list of women who tempt us in our dreams?

sonam kapoor maxim hot

Katrina Kaif hasn’t had her face smashed by Salman Khan, Deepika Padukone hasn’t received a punch from Neil Nitin Mukesh while filming Lafangey Parindey and Bipasha Basu keeps getting better and better and still they got to bite dust. Why? It’s the magic of Aisha which landed Sonam right above all the actresses who had the “hot tag”.

“It’s really important to me. I like the words ‘hot’ and ‘sexy.’ It’s fun and at the same time, speaks about your sensuality, passion and depth,” an thrilled Sonam said.

Aamir beats SRK to top Filmfare Powerlist for the third time
Friday, 23 July 2010 15:34

Every year, popular film magazine Filmfare compiles and publishes an elaborate list of the most significant people in Bollywood. Actors, actresses, singers, music directors, producers, distributors and directors are ranked in their respective categories based on their impact on the industry in that year.
aamir-khan filmfare power list
Among the many categories is one which removes the boundaries set by the area of expertise of the personalities in question. It’s more about the influence of each personality on the industry as a whole than their specialization.

The Filmfare Power List 2009 hasn’t brought any smiles to Shah Rukh Khan as it’s Aamir Khan who took the top spot, just like he did in the 2008 and 2007 Power Lists. The success of Taare Zameen Par, Ghajini and 3 Idiots with the last two attaining all time blockbuster status, have made sure Aamir retained the first position for three years back-to-back. Shah Rukh Khan on the other hand had to settle for the second spot once more. In consolation for SRK, it must be mentioned that SRK had only two releases in 2009 – Dulha Mil Gaya in which he had a cameo and Billu in which he had an extended guest appearance. Both movies tanked and despite the failure, SRK held on to his position in the list indicating the significance of this actor.

See if your favourite Bollywood personality has made it to the Top 10 list.

Aamir Khan
Shah Rukh Khan
Rajkumar Hirani
A.R Rahman
Karan Johar
Yash Raj Films
Aamir Khan Productions
Kareena Kapoor
Hrithik Roshan
Katrina Kaif

The entire Bachchan family (Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai) is missing from the Power List and so is Akshay Kumar.
