Rocket Singh - Salesman of The Year may have had a slow start here in India. Blame it on the lackluster promotional activities from Yash Raj Films. For some unexplainable reason, the production house is in high gear promoting Pyaar Impossible which releases in 2010 and paid less attention to Rocket Singh. But that didn’t stop the latter from being popular in the US. The review of Rocket Singh in the New York Times site is the number one most read movie story. The review topped stories on Golden Globe nominations and those on Hollywood movies, to attain the top position in readership. Referring to it as "a smart, focused Bollywood movie”, the write-up goes on to praise the director and the lead actor. The review mentions that the director, Shimit Amin dispenses with Bollywood's normal tangle of subplots and mashup of genres. It says, "There's music, but no big production numbers. Even romance is back-burnered. Instead, Mr. Amin sticks to the story at hand." "Kapoor, a heartthrob who has quickly become a star playing cards, turns in a skillfully understated performance. His Harpreet is an old-school hero: solid, righteous, compassionate. You can't help cheering for him." We share the same enthusiasm as the NY Times. Wish the Indian audience listened as well. |
