Bollywood hasn’t been able to come up with what can be referred to as a proper espionage flick. Of course we had our share of spy movies back in the 80’s and 90’s which were more or less rip-offs of the James Bond series. The rest of the pack is comprised of spoofs and barely-there attempts. Saif Ali Khan is going to change all that with the first blue-blooded spy movie in Bollywood – Agent Vinod and the first promotional pic looks promising enough. Deviating from the slick-flick route, director Sriram Raghavan has opted to give Agent Vinod the treatment which the followers of The Bourne Trilogy have been acquainted with. When asked about the movie, Raghavan said, “It is a realistic film and not a spoof or comic James Bond. It is full of action pieces, thrills, and characters." So it’s going to be more Bourne than Bond. Gritty action set pieces on a realism-tinged backdrop will be the prime focus of Agent Vinod. Realism is a best-seller these days and the makers are cashing in on the trend. Saif who is also donning the role of the producer will be pairing up with Kareena Kapoor in Agent Vinod and the actioner is expected to explode in theatres in May 2011. |
