Fatso – Movie Review

Some fine actors, who know how to look at home even when placed in outlandish circumstances, carry this quaint tale of love, death, separation, resurrection and reparation to the level of a fairly engaging comedy. Films about near-death and... Read more...
Tezz – Movie Review

Hate Story – Movie Review

Meet the newest avatar of Maa Kali! The fascist avenging woman has always been a favourite figure of fantasy fashioning for our films. Who can forget Nargis gunning down her own son in Mehboob Khan’s “Mother India”? The motivations for revenge... Read more...
Housefull 2 – Movie Review

Gags galore. Laughs? Well, not as many as you’d expect in a 180-minute marathon mirth machine. Somehow, the jokes get choked in the comic ritual of repetition. Once you figure out who’s who and who’s ha-ha in the farce fest, the attempts to... Read more...
Hollywood or Bollywood – Blue is the movie to watch this month
Friday, 09 October 2009 08:10

Given its multi-starrer status and sky-high budget, Blue has been in the limelight for quite some time. The excitement is rising with each day and for one reason or the other, the press is treated to some of the best news that movie lovers will love to hear. The latest news on Blue is from the Hollywood side and the names which are associated with the news will blow you away, literally.

Hollywood cinematographers Amir Mokri and Mitchell Amundsen have shown a keen interest in Bollywood’s most stylized action-flick ever and will be treated to a special screening of Blue. Amir Mokri has shot high voltage action flicks like Vantage Point, Bad Boys 2 and Fast & Furious while Mitchell Amundsen wielded the camera for Tom Cruise’s third Mission Impossible movie. Now the truly “awesome” surprise – Michael Bay, director of Transformers movies may also drop by for the screening of Blue at Warner Brothers Studios in LA. The mixing of Blue is also conducted at Warner Brothers Studios and that earns it the distinction of the first Bollywood movie to be mixed there.

Blue’s director Anthony D’Souza is a huge fan of Michael Bay who is synonymous with stylish explosive action. Blue is clearly inspired by Bay’s film making style as it is evident from the racy and adrenaline pumping trailers.

Anthony D’Souza is beaming because of all the attention Blue is receiving. He says, "I've been a Michael Bay fan right from the time he made the Aaron Burr commercial. He's definitely my favourite director. Blue bears Bay's stamp. I had decided I'd show it to him when it was ready.”

We hope Michael Bay does find the time to check out his admirer’s work.

The star cast of Blue comprises of Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Zayed Khan, Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif. Kylie Minogue makes a special appearance in the movie and has performed in a promotional video. Blue is considered as the most technically superlative movie of recent times. The crew, equipment and film making techniques which went into creating Blue are of Hollywood class. The action and visual effects have been supervised by James Bomalick whose track record includes Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Die Hard 4.0 and Bad Boys 2. Pete Zuccarini who has worked as Underwater Director of Photography for Terminator Salvation, Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Jumper among many others, has taken up the same role for Blue. The music and score has been composed by A.R Rahman with sound design from Resul Pookutty (Need we say, both are Oscar winners?). Shot extensively in the Bahamas and Bangkok, with every ingredient that an action movie lover can ask for, this high octane under-water thriller will surface on October 16. Fasten your seatbelts and brace yourself for the thrill ride.
