We become hyper-excited when a good movie comes in and shatters opening records and we turn equally grumpy when a good movie which deserves to be a winner, loses out. That sums up our reaction to the shockingly low opening collections of Ranbir Kapoor starrer, Rocket Singh - Salesman of The Year. The movie had a 20-40% start at some centres and a worse start of 10-15% in others.

This was expected by the box office analysts as the publicity and marketing of the movie was too weak. Unlike other movies from the Yash Raj Films banner, Rocket Singh was released with minimal promotional activities. The logic behind this move is still unknown. But the decision has proved to be fatal. To make matters worse, some viewers have found themselves to be cheated as they were expecting a comedy movie along the lines of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. This misconception can also be placed on the poor marketing techniques.

Chances of Ranbir Kapoor scoring a hattrick this year seem distant. Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani had flying starts and excellent runs. Rocket Singh hasn’t taken off yet and it may settle for an average box office performance even if word-of-mouth publicity gets it the much needed audience.
