The year started off with new hope and big releases at the box office. But all hope went up in flames as the month of January delivered huge flops. The big stars and the big money at stake didn’t breathe any life into the industry in January.

Jugal Hansraj’s romantic-comedy Pyaar Impossible starring Priyanka Chopra and Uday Chopra was the first shock. The beauty and the geek storyline played out to deserted theatres. The interesting fact here is that Yash Raj had given priority to this flick over Rocket Singh as far as the promotions were concerned. Both films tanked.

Verdict: Disaster

SRK opened his account for the year 2010 with a marriage theme movie which belonged in the 90’s. Though Khan had an extended guest role in Dulha Mil Gaya, the movie’s posters prominently featured him alongside Sushmita Sen and Fardeen Khan. The movie which was too long in the making wasn’t quite what the audience wanted.

Verdict: Disaster

Shahid Kapoor’s hold over the crowd is getting weaker with each movie that released since Kaminey. Kaminey launched him to heights the actor had never seen before. But then came the infamous Dil Bole Hadippa which received a lukewarm response and now Ken Ghosh’s dance-flick Chance Pe Dance which is officially a flop.

Verdict: Flop

Ram Gopal Verma’s attempt at bringing the channel wars to the big screen received mixed reviews from the critics and a thumbs-down from the audience. The public found the actual TRP wars between the news channels to be more interesting than RGV’s Rann.

Verdict: Flop

Salman Khan’s epic period film Veer was equated to Hollywood’s Troy and Gladiator. The action and the war sequences were appreciated and so was Salman’s performance. But the treat ended there. Veer did garner a respectable initial as Salman’s popularity over the masses helped. But that wasn’t quite enough to make it a hit.

Verdict: Below Average
