After clinching the title of the highest grossing film in the US, My Name is Khan has conquered the UK and took the throne of (No, not the Queen!) the highest grossing Bollywood film in the Queen’s land. The UK box office collections have crossed 2.5 million pounds which is a landmark figure not seen by any other Hindi movie in the past. Not even the smash hit, 3 Idiots.
The previous record holder in the territory was Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, which had the same lead actors – SRK and Kajol. MNIK reunited Bollywood’s favourite pair after a long gap of eight years and director Karan Johar knew that the formula would work magic at the box office. However, even he was surprised by the sky-high collections in the foreign territories like US and UK. MNIK has proved to be a successful movie for all the investors – Fox International Productions, Fox Star Studios, Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment. Currently in its fifth week in theatres, the movie is showing no signs of relaxing its grip and we can already assure you that it’ll be equally strong in VCD/DVD sales too.
