Fatso – Movie Review

Some fine actors, who know how to look at home even when placed in outlandish circumstances, carry this quaint tale of love, death, separation, resurrection and reparation to the level of a fairly engaging comedy. Films about near-death and... Read more...
Tezz – Movie Review

What do you do when a country, a culture and their purveyors wrong you irreparably? You plant a bomb in a speeding train and hold the establishment to ransom. Taking a cue from Hollywood’s most watched bomb-maro-bomb rush-hour excursions into... Read more...
Hate Story – Movie Review

Meet the newest avatar of Maa Kali! The fascist avenging woman has always been a favourite figure of fantasy fashioning for our films. Who can forget Nargis gunning down her own son in Mehboob Khan’s “Mother India”? The motivations for revenge... Read more...
Housefull 2 – Movie Review

Gags galore. Laughs? Well, not as many as you’d expect in a 180-minute marathon mirth machine. Somehow, the jokes get choked in the comic ritual of repetition. Once you figure out who’s who and who’s ha-ha in the farce fest, the attempts to... Read more...
Mild March with a surprise hit PDF Print E-mail
March was quite mild in terms of box office takings. Of course, My Name Is Khan was a strong holdover in the month, but new releases failed to hold on even on their release dates. The only saving grace came in the form of a comedy flick starring Ajay Devgan which posted the highest collections in the month. However March did have some quality movies to boast of. Though none of them succeeded in getting the crowds to shell out for the tickets, quality cinema was in theatres for those who wished to savour it.
The first week of the month saw the release of ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE?, ROAD, MOVIE, ROKKK and THANKS MAA and among the group Ajay Devgan’s Athithi Tum Kab Jaoge did receive some guests as viewers. The word of mouth publicity maintained its steady collections and it earned its makers a decent profit. Road, Movie didn’t embark on a trip down the box office lane as its dull 15% opening was too meek. The case was similar for Rokkk and Thanks Maa.
The second week had YAAA WRONG, HIDE & SEEK and NA GHAR KE NA GHAAT KE and all of them failed miserably. Sunny Deol’s box office potential has nosedived completely and Right Yaaa Wrong proved it outright. The poor response was attributed to the IPL tournament which kicked off during the same time.
LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA was the star of the third week. The critically acclaimed movie opened quite well in metros and considering the low budget it will be a profitable venture for its makers. ShAAPIT got off to a gentle start in single screens and may break even by the end of the month. LAHORE, a sports movie with kick-boxing as its premise was highly regarded by the critics, but that wasn’t the case at the BO. The opening was extremely poor and it won’t recover its costs.
The last week of the month began with a sight of abandoned cinema halls. HUM TUM AUR GHOST, WELL DONE ABBA and MITTAL V/S MITTAL were the key releases. But the lack of star power was evident in the results card. Well Done Abba and Mittal v/s Mittal received good reviews but as expected didn’t do so well in theatres.
