It's been promoted as the movie which will give Bollywood a new sense of direction in terms of production, marketing and distribution. So how has the box-office collections of Kites fared on its opening day?

It has been quite good at the ticket window though not essentially spectacular. The movie collected Rs. 107.50 million nett gross (Rs. 10.75 crore) on its opening day which fell a bit short of what 3 Idiots made on its first day. 3 Idiots which is the current record holder had swept in Rs. 130 million net gross (Rs. 13 crore) on day one.

The Karnataka circuit could have chipped in its share had it not been for the ban imposed on Kites in the state. But even if that's considered, Kites wouldn't have overthrown 3 Idiots from the top seat. Kites also managed to garner a neat Rs. 17.60 million as part of paid previews on Thursday.
