After receiving an admirable opening week response, Hrithik Roshan-Barbara Mori starrer Kites was seen losing height rapidly in its second week. Though it has action, romance and hummable tracks, all of which packaged into a technically immaculate and visually stunning movie experience, Kites found it hard to maintain its position up in the air. The movie's fate looks sealed at the moment and the producers will have to look for other options to make profit out of it.
 
Analysts regarded media reviews as one of the reasons for the dull response. It appears that mixed reviews confused those who pick movies based on movie critic recommendations. On one end, a band of reviewers showered praises on the movie’s styling, action, romantic nuances, the chemistry between the leads and overall treatment. On the other end, the anti-Kites brigade took to bashing the movie for its lame plot, weak supporting cast and lacklustre climax. Viewer reactions were equally divided creating a rather cluttered and seemingly unreliable word-of-mouth publicity. There hasn’t been such a Bollywood movie in recent times which divided the opinion of critics and viewers as much as Kites did.

The masses found it hard to appreciate a Bollywood movie which has got an abundant usage of Spanish and English which stole away collections from single screens. Surprisingly, Hollywood imports, Prince of Persia and Shrek 4 found many takers in the same move-going crowd.

Overall the movie has done business of close to 600 million in India and is yet to make profit. the overseas market hasn't responded in the expected manner too, though the movie did break into the US box-office Top 10 on its opening weekend.
