After Kites fell from the sky, the industry had set its hope on Raavan to revive the relatively mediocre season and did the hero...ehm...the villain impress? If we go by the opening day numbers, it didn’t.

The cumulative gross of all three versions of Mani Ratnam’s Raavan on day one was around Rs. 200 million which was much below the expectations of its makers. It should also be mentioned that this is the worldwide collections figure and not merely the collections from the domestic market. An opening day figure of that size would have been spectacular had it been the collections of one movie. But here it’s three and the resulting figure isn’t that magnificent to write home about.

When it comes to the Hindi version, analysts noted an attendance rate which was far less than that of Kites, Badmaash Company, Housefull and Rajneeti on their respective opening days. The mixed reviews that the Hindi version has received may have a negative impact on the weekend collections. On the other hand, the Tamil version did succeed in impressing critics and viewers which will prove to be useful in drawing more viewers in its run.

Saturday and Sunday occupancy will prove to be crucial to all three editions as week days have never had a history of being number generators.
