Rajneeti collects Rs. 700 million in two weeks
Prakash Jha’s star-studded political drama Rajneeti has won all the seats at the box office and in movie review columns for the past two weeks. The movie which has a premise inspired by the epic Mahabharata has been certified as a clear winner as it progresses to its third week with worldwide collections of Rs.700 million.
Loaded with a star cast comprising of Ajay Devgn, Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Katrina Kaif, Nana Patekar, Naseeruddin Shah and Manoj Bajpai, Rajneeti hit theatres in India by storm on June 4. After collecting Rs. 100 million on its opening day, it went on to gross Rs. 350 million in its three-day opening weekend.
Overseas market added its share which pushed the total opening weekend collections to Rs. 450 million. Rajneeti missed the number 10 position at the US box office by a small margin though it managed to collect approximately 900 thousand dollars in its opening weekend.
First week collections added up to roughly Rs.500 million and the strong hold in the second week which owes a lot to the positive word of mouth publicity took the total to Rs. 700 million. The arrival of Raavan hasn’t created a dent in Rajneeti’s image as attendance is still strong and third week looks promising for Prajash Jha and his party to rule.
