Salman Khan’s Dabangg opening as ballistic as 3 Idiots
Salman Khan’s cop flick Dabangg received a thunderous opening with theatres in the country running to packed shows on day one. The action movie was welcomed by moviegoers with huge excitement as hundreds on theatres posted housefull shows throughout the day. Analysts predict Dabangg’s opening weekend to be ahead of 3 Idiots as the response on the first day has been the highest so far this year.
The movie starring Salman as a corrupt cop Chulbul 'Robinhood' Pandey, reportedly opened to 97 per cent occupancy across single screens in India – a figure which the industry hasn’t seen in months. Released in 1300 screens in India, the movie marks the debuts of director Abhinav Kashyap and actress Sonakshi Sinha. Dabangg which also stars Sonu Sood, Vinod Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, was made with a budget of Rs 180 million was sold to distributors for Rs 400 million.
