If Salman Khan and Aamir Khan are the best of buddies, Aamir may have taken the earth-shattering response that Dabangg has received upon opening, in the right spirit. The action flick has beaten the opening day record which set by 3 Idiots last year.

3 Idiots had collected Rs. 130 million when it opened on Christmas Day in 2009. Dabangg’s roaring start took its opening day collections all the way to Rs. 140 million.

Comparisons are drawn to Salman’s previous cop flick Wanted which also had a similar treatment in terms of direction and feel. Unlike Wanted which was a rage in single screens and an above average performer in multiplexes, Dabangg has taken every centre by storm. The reaction has been nothing short of stupendous with moviegoers giving whistles and cheers to Salman’s bravado act and the thrilling action on show.

The year’s highest grosser – Raajneeti – had collected Rs. 105 million on its first day. That hints at the fact that Chulbul Pandey will be around for sometime till it pushes Rajneeti to second spot.
