Lafangey Parindey average at the BO, yet makes profit

Yash Raj Films has tasted defeat once more as the movie which they were counting on to bring back their glory days have settled down with a below average collections figure. Lafangey Parindey which starred Neil Nithin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone did have an interesting premise and well-choreographed dance and stunt sequences. The movie managed to collect around Rs. 250 million (Rs. 25 crore) since its release on 20 August 2010. This is director Pradeep Sarkar’s second flop in a row and ironically his previous movie Laaga Chunari Mein Daag was also a YRF production.

YRF shelled out a total of Rs. 180 million (Rs. 18 crore) in making and marketing the flick. The movie collected Rs. 105 million (Rs. 10.5 crore) on its opening weekend which wasn’t quite what’s expected of a YRF movie. By the third week it was seen dragging itself to an expected final tally of Rs. 250 million. But the news isn’t all that sour for Yash Raj Films. The sale of satellite rights and music rights earned it Rs. 120 million (Rs. 12 crore) and Rs. 40 million (Rs. 4 crore) respectively. Though the distributors may have to suffer some losses, the producers have acquired a decent profit.
