| Salman Khan once again proved that the masses are with him. His latest action flick, Wanted had a good start at the box office beating Yash Raj’s Shahid Kapoor-Rani Mukerji starrer Dil Bole Haddipa. It’s a remarkable feat as Salman had a string of flops till Wanted came along while Shahid was flying high on the success of Kaminey. Wanted received 90% attendance in single screens and an expected 40-50% attendance in multiplexes. The slightly dated look of the movie hasn’t gone so well with the multiplex audience. But multiplex ticket sales have improved in the post Ramzan season. The action elements were well received and so was Prakash Raj’s performance as the villain. Though it will not surpass Ghajini’s record breaking run, Wanted will turn out to be a successful remake of the south Indian film it is based on. On the other hand, Dil Bole Haddipa had a rough start with lukewarm responses at multiplexes and single screens. The Yash Raj production had an attendance in the range of 50-60% and was weaker in single screens as well. Referred to as a remake of “She is the man” and as a mixture of Chak De India and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, it may find it a bit difficult to swim to safer shores. The failure of Dil Bole haddipa could very well mark the end of Rani's career as her bankability as a lead actress is at an all time low at the moment. - Sanjoy Alexander is a contributing writer to a leading Indian magazine.
