Action Replayy, Vipul Shah’s loose adaptation of Hollywood sci-fi flick Back to the Future will go down as one of the biggest flops of the year. Starring Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the movie has the time-travel based plot line which somehow hasn’t generated enough interest.

Despite the director’s track record of delivering blockbusters when teamed up with Akshay Kumar, Vipul Shah seems to have lost this one completely. The opening weekend somehow pulled in around Rs. 170 million which is slightly more than half of what Golmaal 3 drew in. Critics panned it and that made the movie bleed more. The collections so far have been a petty Rs. 220 million which doesn’t justify the cost involved in making and marketing it which is way north of Rs. 400 million.

Action Replayy was being counted on by Aishwarya Rai the most as it was the insurance policy that she hoped will help her recover from the damage caused by Raavan. Now all her hopes are resting on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish which releases mid-November. Akshay Kumar on the other hand will be moving on to Tees Maar Khan which unites him with his lucky mascot Katrina Kaif. The comic-caper directed by Farah Khan releases in December.
