Kiran Rao’s directorial debut Dhobi Ghat had an uneventful opening weekend with net collections of Rs. 88 million (Rs. 8.8 crore). Though the numbers aren’t anything to write home about, they are above expectations for a movie made on a reasonable budget and targeting a niche audience. The reviews have been mixed so far with parallels being drawn between Dhobi Ghat and Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay!

Commenting on the response that the movie has received Aamir Khan said, "I can see that the film has evoked extreme responses... as I had expected actually.
