All that hype surrounding husbands and murders couldn’t save Priyanka Chopra-starrer 7 Khoon Maaf from the disgraceful opening that it received at the box-office. Following the opening pattern of last week’s release Patiala House, Vishal Bharadwaj’s drama crashed in its opening weekend itself with a scanty sum of Rs. 105 million (Rs. 10.5 crore) in its piggy bank.

The film, based on Ruskin Bond’s short story, Susanna’s Seven Husbands, features seven male leads. The line-up includes Naseeruddin Shah, Neil Nitin Mukesh, John Abraham, Irrfan Khan, Annu Kapoor and Russian actor Aleksandr Dyachenko.

The mixed reception from the critics gave 7 Khoon Maaf a second blow on its face which made it tumble right through the weekend. Audience reactions haven’t been encouraging enough to make the movie survive the week ahead too. Trade pundits are a bit surprised to see the cold response the movie has received as they had expected an opening similar to that of No One Killed Jessica which was also female-centric.
